CHARACTERISTICS
Feed raw material. Camelina sativa (Gold of Pleasure) is an annual plant of the brassicaceae family. The distribution, originally mediterranean, has become subcosmopolita. In the wild it is often found in uncultivated land, in vineyards and in ruderal environments such as on the edge of roads. The flowering goes from May to the end of June, the small and yellow flowers have an oval shape. The seeds have a high protein content (27-32%). The fats content is quite high (38-43%), with an unusually high presence of omega-3 (45%) and omega-6 fatty acids which make them very useful for the growth of the nestlings and for the moult. Moreover, the consumption of seeds promotes the formation of silky, shiny and elastic feathers. The very high palatability makes the camelina seeds very appreciated by canaries and all the other carduelids.
